Island of Bréhat

Island of Bréhat

Buried underneath the camellias, hydrangeas and little houses made of pink granite, bike paths in the middle of valleys of heather, and its tiny, pleasant little creeks, is the very small island of Bréhat.

The very accessible island measures 1 mile by 2.2 miles. Bréhat is actually two islands that are joined together.

The southern part is like the Mediterranean, with its luscious vegetation. The northern part is like Ireland with the Ocean as a backdrop. Every night about a dozen light houses send signals to the lighthouse in Paon. It's like a free light show!

Island of Bréhat

In the 5th and 6th centuries, Bréhat and the neighboring islands saw the arrival of a number of monks from the other side of the channel.

The islands of 'île Verte, île Saint-Maudez, 'île Lavret were happy to take them in.

Island of Bréhat

In Lavret, Saint Budoc founded the first monastery in the region. On Maudez, you can see the remains of a Cistercian priory from the 12th century .

 How to get there

In ten minutes' time, by boat from Arcouest point.

No cars are allowed on the island.

Our advice

One of the boats that takes people to the island, also makes regular trips around the island. This will give you an idea of how the two little islands fit together as well as how strong the current is!
