Day 1: Lisboa - Óbidos - Alcobaça - Nazaré - Batalha - Fátima (+/- 217Km /134.8 miles)
By a landscape rich in windmills and fruit trees we will arrive at Óbidos, where we can admire the harmony of the architecture, the diversity of the handicrafts and taste the famous ginginha (bitter cherry liqueur). Here we will visit Alcobaça, the first and largest Gothic church in Portugal which houses the tombs of the famous lovers Dom Pedro and Inês de Castro. We will stop at Nazaré, a typical fishing village and seaside resort known for its traditions and legends. We will continue to Batalha and visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Victoria, a Gothic masterpiece in Portugal where we can find the tomb of Henry the Navigator, the promoter of the maritime discoveries. We will then head to at Fátima, home of the famous Marian Shrine, where we might attend the candle procession.

Day 2: Fátima - Coimbra - Aveiro - Oporto (+/-270Km/152.9 miles)
After breakfast at the hotel we will depart towards Coimbra to visit its University, which is one of the oldest in the world. Its magnificent baroque library is characterized by ancient traditions and customs. We will stop at St Clara Church, and visit the tomb of Queen St. Isabel, the protagonist of the "miracle of the roses". At the center you can admire the exclusive ceramics of Coimbra. In the afternoon we will continue to Aveiro, city of the canals, known as the "Portuguese Venice". Here we shall have time to see the graceful moliceiros boats and taste the local ovos moles. At the end of the day, we will drive to Nova de Gaia in nearby Oporto.

Day 3: Oporto (+/- 25km/15.5 miles)
Porto is the second global city of Portugal and a World Heritage site by UNESCO - a living amphitheatre inviting us to make a morning visit to discover the riverside area, old houses, palaces, churches that history has made eternal. Here we will have the opportunity to sample the world renowned Port wine. The rest of the afternoon will be free.

Day 4: Oporto - Guimarães - Braga - Barcelos -Oporto (+/-178Km/110.6 miles)
After breakfast we will head out for a full day tour of Minho, the northwest region of Portugal that offers natural green sceneries and the sparkling "green wine". Our starting point is Guimarães, the cradle of the nation, birthplace of the first king of Portugal. As we walk the historic center, it will be as if we have returned to medieval times. We will visit the Sacred Hill, crowned by the Castle, as well the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança, a building that dates back to the 15th century. We will drive to Braga known as the "Portuguese Rome" for its concentration of religious architecture. It is the home of the oldest Cathedral of the country and the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary with famous baroque stairway and gardens. After, we shall continue to Barcelos, a historical city rich in popular handicraft where the Galo de Barcelos (the rooster of Barcelos) legend was born and became a Portuguese icon. We will return to Porto at the end of the day.

Day 5: Oporto - Amarante - Vila Real - Douro Valley - Lamego - Viseu - Urgeiriça (+/-254Km/157.8 miles)
After breakfast we will drive to Amarante, a pretty town known for the promotion of love and marriage. The monastery facing the river houses the tomb of São Gonçalo, the town's most well known figure. Nearby is a bustling market where you can find fruit, vegetables, chickens, cloth, and an immense variety of other popular items. After, we will drive to Vila Real and visit the gardens of the manor of Mateus. Its façade is still depicted on the well-known Portuguese Rose wine bottles. Then we will enter in the Port wine region, travelling through the vineyards and the breathtaking landscapes of the Douro Valley. We will stop at Lamego's Santuário de N. S. dos Remédios, known for its magnificent baroque style staircase. Maybe you will try some of the local delicacies such as the local ham or the famous "Bola de Lamego" (a loaf baked in the oven with smoked ham). We will continue to the mountainous hinterland to Viseu, center of the Dão Vineyards and a city connected with Portugal's oldest hero, Viriato, the Lusitanian chief. In the shadow of the Cathedral, narrow streets and doorways with coats of arms carved in granite make up the ancient town of Viseu. At the end of the day we will arrive at Urgeiriça.

Day 6: Urgeiriça - Bussaco - Tomar - Lisboa (+/- 365 km)
We will have breakfast at the hotel before driving through the heart of Portugal until Bussaco. It is well known for its lush forest and for its charming hotel, a former royal hunting lodge. Then we will continue to Tomar, a city whose development is closely linked to the Order of the Templars. The Order received these lands in 1159 as a reward for the assistance they gave Dom Afonso Henriques (the First King of Portugal) in the Christian conquest of the territory. It was Dom Gualdim Pais, the first Grand Master of the Order in Portugal, who founded the castle and the remarkable Convent of Christ inside. Expanded and altered over the centuries, this retains the influences of various architectural styles; it is the centerpiece of the city and classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. We continue journey until Lisbon.

Day 7: Lisboa - Sintra - Cabo da Roca - Cascais - Estoril (+/- 90 km)
After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart towards to Sintra for a full day. We will visit the palace of Sintra and walk through this charming village. We will enjoy the amazing view from the westernmost point of Europe (Cabo da Roca). Along the coast we will pass by one of the most famous surfing beaches, the incredible Boca do Inferno, the cosmopolitan Cascais and the gardens of Estoril Casino. We will return to Lisbon at the end of the day.

Day 8: Lisboa - Evora (+/- 140 km)
We will spend the day discovering the town of Évora and its mosaic of culture, history and traditions. As we leave Lisboa, we will cross the bridge over the river Tejo. By a beautiful and bucolic landscape of olive trees, cork oak trees and vineyards we will arrive at Évora, a World Heritage of UNESCO. In the narrow streets of the whitewashed town of Évora we will spend some time at some of its most important monuments: the Roman Temple, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, Saint Francis Church and the "Bones Chapel", and the University of Évora. At the market we will find some of the fresh produce and rich flavors used to prepare some of the most famous delicacies of Portugal. During the visit we will also admire the diversity and authenticity of local handicraft with cork, ceramic and copper objects. After lunch, we will have the rest of the afternoon free to better discover the city. Why not try some of the region's delicious wines and cheeses?

Day 9: Evora - Beja - Silves - Alvor (+/-250Km/155.3 miles)
After breakfast at the hotel we will have part of the morning at leisure in Évora, before driving southward passing Beja. Here, the highest towers of Portuguese Medieval castles dominate the town and the region. We will cross the small mountains as we will enter in the Algarve. By fields of orange trees we arrive will arrive at Silves, the renowned town dominated by its red sandstone castle dating back mainly to Moorish times. We will continue to the golden sands of the Algarve as we pass by Praia da Rocha to Alvor.

Day 10: Alvor - Ponta da Piedade - Sagres - Cabo de S. Vicente - Lagos - Alvor (+/-140 km/87 miles)
We will have breakfast at the hotel before travelling to the southern region of Algarve. We will stop in Ponta da Piedade and admire the magnificent view over the Atlantic Ocean, of cliffs sculpted by the erosive action of both the sea and time. We will continue to Sagres, a fishing port, for a visit to the fortress that was the mythical "navigation school" forever linked with the presence of Prince Henry the Navigator during the first days of Atlantic navigation and the discovery of the African coast. We will proceed along the cliffs to Cabo São Vincente, the southwestern point in Europe, and into the city of Lagos. This cosmopolitan town is known for its delicious Algarve dishes, such as the fish and shellfish cooked in a copper pan (cataplana), and fine sweets such as the famous marzipans, almond and fig cakes. With the free afternoon, perhaps you can enjoy a dip in the warm sea.

Day 11: Alvor - Setúbal - Serra da Arrábida - Lisbon (+/-330km/205 miles)
We will take a last look at the water while traveling along the coast, to say farewell to the Algarve. The return trip to Lisbon will take you to the city of Setubal, a major port and industrial center on the north bank of the Sado estuary. Then, we will take the scenic route over the Arrábida Mountain Range, an area preserved as a Natural Park at the gates of Lisbon, and savour the sweeping views of the Tróia Peninsula. We will cross the bridge over the Tejo River to arrive at Lisbon.
